In late 2007 and early 2008, I had three dreams that I believe were sent by God about the upcoming economic calamity ahead. As a result of these three dreams, A1 Alectrician revisited our “Joseph Plan,” which was an earlier plan implemented during the 1990s to help A1 A-Lectrician survive the deep construction slowdown.

I had already gone through two periods where we were almost bankrupted

(1978-79 and 1984-85) and had experienced a long recession that

impacted the construction industry from the late 1990s to 2003.

Although we still had a decent number of projects in our pipeline and

the market was still strong, I realized that God was revealing what

was coming so that we could prepare. Accordingly, we reinstated our

Joseph Plan preparations.

Our Joseph Plan was based on the lesson God gave us in Genesis

37-50. In essence, Joseph became second in command to the Pharaoh

of Egypt. God sent Pharaoh two dreams about the future. The dreams

troubled Pharaoh; I think they were nightmares to Pharaoh. Joseph

interpreted the dreams for Pharaoh and told him Egypt would have

seven years of great abundance followed by seven years of famine.

Eventually Pharaoh put Joseph in charge of all Egypt, second

only to himself. Joseph’s plan for Egypt’s survival was to save one fifth

of all grain harvested during the seven years of abundance, and

that food was to be held in reserve to be used during the seven years

of famine, “so that the country may not be ruined by the famine”

(Genesis 41:36). Considering the state of the world today, I think it might be a good idea to implement the Joseph Plan today. In Hawaiian pidgin, the plan is:

“No eat all. Save something for tomorrow.”
