My name is Jimmy Yamada
I grew up in Honolulu and went to Roosevelt High School and the University of Hawaii, graduating with a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering. I worked for my dad (Jimmy Sr) all my life and joined his business, A-1 A-Lectrician, Inc in 1970. He passed away in 1979 and God chose me to run the family business. I was an atheist until Kevin Asano gave me a book “Evidence That Demands a Verdict” by Josh McDowell. I read the book and was in awe: “There’s a God.” I was “born again” on June 6th, 1993.
Our oldest son Jason took over the business essentially in 2009 and has been running the business since. I am now an ordained Assembly of God minister and I am the Sr Pastor Emeritus of Cedar Assembly of God. My wife is Diana who was my high school sweetheart and we’ve been together since 1963. Our 2nd son was an Every Nations minister and is married to the love of his life Charity Rivera Yamada. They have a daughter Madison (Madi) and son Micah, and we now do not need to think where we go for our vacations: Vallejo, California.
Our daughter is Lisa Yamada and she was part owner of Nella Media Group and founder of Flux Hawaii magazine. They were building a media magazine mini empire. She told me “Dad, paper is not dead.” I believe that all people can see God’s Hand active and working in their lives. See my first book “God’s Hand in the Life of an Electrician.” God is always working for our good, so we should be always looking back at the good in our past, looking for the good today, and waiting for the good if it is not obvious.
I also believe that America is in “deep kimchee” but our God is the maker of “kimchee.” So he has given us patterns or structures of His goodness which reveal His Hand and how He continues working for our good. We can trust that He will use difficult times to help us become like Jesus. See my second book “How to Thrive in an Economic Disaster.” I also believe that God is orchestrating the march into the last days (which we are already in) and as Christians we should be looking to Him and what His purposes might be today. America is busted and America is broke. That is creating a whole mess of poor. I lay out five groups of poor and what He might desire of us in caring for the poor. Again it’s all about becoming like His Son (at least a little). See my 3rd book God’s Hand in the LIfe of a Pastor.
I also believe God cares for us “Big Time” and the Holy Spirit was always with us (even when I was living as atheist live) and lives in us once we are born again. (John 14:17). One of His major communication methods is dreams. God is the sender of dreams and He is communicating with us more than we might know. See my 4th book God’s Hand in the LIfe of a Dreamer.
I invite you to join me in my journey towards becoming more like Jesus.
